DECEMBER 9, 2021 -- Sixty-four students graduated from Allan Hancock College’s nursing program on Dec. 9, continuing the college’s legacy of training highly-skilled healthcare workers.

The graduating class included 33 graduates from Hancock’s associate degree nursing program and 31 graduates from the college’s vocational nursing program. In two separate ceremonies at the college’s Santa Maria campus, both groups received commemorative pins marking their accomplishments.

The ceremony was also streamed live online via the college YouTube page for the friends and family of the graduates.

“This is one of the most challenging programs that we offer at our college, and I salute every student who is graduating today for their hard work and perseverance,” said Hancock Associate Superintendent/Vice President of Academic Affairs Robert Curry, Ph.D. “It’s comforting to know that when we encounter you out there in the world of healthcare professionals, we know that you graduated from an excellent program with the skills to deliver the very best level of care to your patients.”

Hancock’s nursing program provides the opportunity of upward mobility for students seeking to work in fulfilling careers. The Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN)-to-Registered Nursing (RN) program, in particular, is specifically designed to provide the LVN with an opportunity for career advancement and prepares the LVN for the additional responsibilities required of the registered nurse. The college’s programs are fully accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

The need for highly-skilled nurses is more important than ever as the Central Coast, the state of California and the United States continue to work toward recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and keep communities safe and healthy. The importance of their work was not lost on the newly graduated nurses.

“This year has been one of the most challenging years of our lives. We entered our first year of nursing school as the world entered its second year of the pandemic,” said LVN program graduate Brittney Passmore. “But if there’s one thing I know about our class of students, it’s that we are adaptable and flexible and can overcome any obstacles that come our way.”

Hancock’s nursing program is just one of many Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs the college offers. Potential students are encouraged to explore these and other degree and certificate programs on the college’s new Guided Pathways website at www.hancockcollege.edu/pathways. Registration is open for spring classes, which start on Jan. 24. Register today at www.hancockcollege.edu/spring
